A recent article in a newspaper from Brazoria County, Texas, examined how pharmacies are working to keep over-the-counter products out of the hands of abusers. Some local drugstores have added security measures to make it more difficult for children to get their hands on cough medicines.
One of the reasons for increased security in the county was an incident involving two 16-year-old girls in October. One of them was taken to a local medical facility after overdosing on medicine with the intent to get high.
Each community has to figure out the best way to stop cough medicine abuse. Check your local pharmacies and see what measures they are taking to help curb cough medicine abuse.
