The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a federal agency with the goal of reducing drug abuse in America, recently conducted a study on teenagers and over-the-counter medicine abuse. This survey showed that 3.1 million teens and young adults ages 12-25 have abused cough medicine. These results are further evidence that our work isn’t over and that educating parents about cough medicine abuse is as important as ever. If you haven’t already:

• Educate yourself about the dangers of cough medicine abuse
• Talk to you kids about the issue
• Safeguard and take inventory of your medicine cabinets
• Know what your teenagers are doing online
