What I’m Thankful For:

…programs in our children's schools, such as D.A.R.E. I have worked as a D.A.R.E. officer in Reno County, Kansas, for years and the opportunity to talk about substance abuse with children has been a rewarding experience, one that I am thankful for. When people think of in-school drug awareness programs like D.A.R.E., they think about educating teenagers about the dangers of illegal drugs or alcohol. These programs offer much more than that. I have made sure that students know about cough medicine abuse and other dangerous habits. These school programs should not be your children's only anti-abuse education, though. Make sure to get the facts about substance abuse and share them with your kids at home. Talk to your kids so that you have reason to be thankful this, and every Thanksgiving.
