Taking Advantage of a Day at Home

With many schools and businesses closed because of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day and the snow storms here in the Northeast, I started thinking about a few things. Whether it is the opportunity to get things done around the house or just relaxing on the couch, these days seem like a blessing for their ability to help us slow down.

It also is a great opportunity to do something as a family. You can get together and enjoy a movie and popcorn on the couch. Or, better yet, you can all enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and talk about different things going on in your lives.

I know that we like to drive home the point about talking with your kids about cough medicine abuse, but it is not the easiest thing to bring up. Sometimes all you need to do is chat with your kids about their daily routines, and an opportunity will present itself.

The shoveling, the snowy journeys to work and school, and the reality of life will return after that day off. But take advantage of those small moments when you have the chance.
