Decirlo a sus amigos

Nuestro grupo de Five Moms tiene la meta de darles a los padres los recursos necesarios para informarles a otros acerca de los peligros asociados con el abuso de las medicinas contra la tos y de cómo almacenar estas medicinas seguramente. Cuando se rediseñó nuestro sitio Web el mes pasado, lo hicimos más fácil de navegar para que los usuarios puedan enterarse de medios para tomar acción y encontrar más información.

Hay dos acciones esenciales para prevenir el abuso de estas medicinas. El primero es hablar con sus adolescentes acerca de este tema para que comprendan los peligros y los usos apropiados de las medicinas contra la tos. El segundo, y de igual importancia, es hablar sobre este tema con otros padres para que comuniquen con sus propios hijos acerca de esta cuestión importante. En el mayo pasado, cuando empezamos a escribir sobre el abuso de medicinas contra la tos para aumentar la conciencia pública acerca de este tema, teníamos una idea básica. Nosotras, las cinco madres, empezamos a hablar sobre el abuso y pedimos a todos con los que hablamos que se lo dijera a cinco otros amigos – y que estos cinco se lo dijera a cinco más. Y así- por esta cadena de personas – intentamos facilitar que todos padres en este país conozcan este problema de abuso de medicinas contra la tos.

Tengo el placer de anunciar que hemos lanzado una nueva herramienta que reduce la dificultad en compartir esta información con otros. Además de la herramienta actual “Tell-a-Friend”, hemos creado una versión que contiene el mismo mensaje importante en español que usted podrá compartir con sus amigos. Con este recurso, le podemos ayudar a decir esta información a sus amigos en el idioma más conveniente para usted – o para ellos.

Hay muchos bloggers que examinan las cosas que afectan a la población hispanohablante de los EE.UU. Debido al creciente preocupación publica sobre el abuso de medicinas contra la tos en la comunidad hispana, yo quería comunicar a estos bloggers acerca de este problema y lo que estamos haciendo para combatirlo. La semana pasada, usé la nueva herramienta Web para enviar el mensaje a cinco personas en la comunidad Web hispana. Lo hice muy fácilmente y, con rapidez, le comuniqué a cada uno sobre el abuso de medicinas contra la tos.

Me ha sorprendido el volumen amplio de esta comunidad Web, inclusive los profundos artículos Web de Laura en Mi Blog Es Tu Blog o las noticias de mi ciudad natal de San Antonio de Elaine en Latino Life. Hay muchos autores en línea que escriben de la experiencia hispanoamericana. Además, me emociona saber que existen muchas bloggers de madre, como la Mamita Mala, que examinan la vida de los padres y las tradiciones hispanas.

Además de diseminar este mensaje importante, yo recibíreacciones valiosas de los bloggers. Esther, autora de 600 Words, me dijo que el tema del abuso de las medicinas le fascinaba. Marisa de Latina Lista escribió este penetrante artículo Web sobre nuestro programa y el problema de abuso a partir de recibir mi mensaje. Me alegre el hecho de que ella podría educar a su audiencia sobre el trabajo de Five Moms y las maneras en que podemos colaborar para combatir el problema juvenil de abuso de medicinas contra la tos.

Les avisaré a ustedes continuamente acerca de nuestros esfuerzos para decírselo a otros padres. At Five Moms, it’s our goal to give parents the resources they need to spread awareness about the dangers of cough medicine abuse and the ways to keep medicines safely. When we launched our redesigned web site last month, we made it easier to find information and ways to take action.

There are two vital steps in preventing abuse. The first is talking with your teens about the issue so they are aware of the dangers and appropriate uses of cough medicine. Second, and just as important, is letting other parents know so that they can have the conversation with their children as well. Last May, when we began writing about cough medicine abuse to help increase awareness of this dangerous habit, we had a simple idea in mind. We five moms began talking about abuse. And we asked everyone we talked with to tell five friends. And to have those five friends tell five more. And through this chain, we are trying to reach every parent across the country.

I’m pleased to announce that we have unveiled another new tool that will make it easier to spread the word. In addition to our current Tell-A-Friend resource, we also have created a version that sends your friends the same important message in Spanish. With this tool, we will be able to help you tell your friends in the language that is most comfortable for you – or them.

There are many bloggers out there who look at trends that affect Americans who speak Spanish. Concern about abuse in the Hispanic community is growing, so I thought it would be a great idea to reach out to these bloggers and tell them about what we are doing to fight it. Last week, I used our new feature to send the message to five other members of the online Hispanic community. It’s so easy to use and it took me only a few minutes to tell them each about cough medicine abuse.

I was first shocked by how expansive this online community is! Whether it is Laura’s insightful posts at Mi Blog Es Tu Blog or the news from my hometown in San Antonio from Elaine at Latino Life, there are many authors writing about what it is like to be Hispanic while living in America. It is so great to see that there are so many Hispanic mommy bloggers, like Mamita Mala, who look at parenting and Hispanic traditions.

In addition to helping spread the word, I got some great feedback from the other writers. Esther, who writes at 600 Words, told me that she was really intrigued by the issue. Marisa from Latina Lista put up this great post about our campaign and the issue after she got my message. I’m really glad that she was able to help tell her readers about what we are doing at the Five Moms and how to work together to fight teen cough medicine abuse.
