Most parents are familiar with the in-school programs to which their children are exposed. As some of you may know, one of these programs is the one I am proud to be a part of, D.A.R.E. As I have written about on many occasions, D.A.R.E. has expanded to assist parents in the fight against cough medicine abuse. The highly acclaimed program gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs. Implemented in over 75 percent of schools nationwide, D.A.R.E. has the necessary tools to help you in educating yourself and your community. Take some time to visit Dose of Prevention and get familiar with the readily available resources D.A.R.E has to offer. By knowing what your children are learning in these school programs, you may find it easier to relate to them by using language they are already familiar with. You can learn how children abuse medicine and what signs will help you identify abuse. Education leads to prevention, so share your new knowledge with other community members and friends to help keep kids drug free.
